199+ REAL, Free DoFollow Backlink Sites List 2023

What is a backlink?

A backlink is ABSOLUTELY ANY kind of link, pointing to your website, from another website.

The more backlinks you have, the more interwoven your website becomes with the fabric of the internet.

The bigger and more authoritative the website that links back to your site is, the more authority this gives your content, and your website, and it in turn becomes recognized as of importance and value to the online community.

That is backlinking.

A backlink can come from anywhere. It can be in an article. It can be in the sidebar. It can be in the footer. But those last two kinds aren’t as good.

The more authority a website has, the more authority you get.

This guide offers a comprehensive list of free backlink sites that can significantly boost your site’s authority and elevate its search engine rankings.

How does a backlink work?

Let’s say your website is ESPN.com. You want to rank higher on Google. SEO specialists might say that you need more backlinks, or links that click out to ESPN on other sites (referring sites like nfl.com or even Reddit).

Google searches for how many backlinks you have (or other sites that link to your content) and rank you on it. It’s important because Google thinks that the most relevant content will have the most people talking about it (or referencing their content).

Think of backlinks like votes: the more people that vote for you, the more authoritative you are.

When lots of people link to you, and if those people are high quality in the eyes of Google, it helps Google understand that you can be trusted (and thus your content ranks better).

What makes a high-quality backlink?

A few months back we outranked our competition (many of them, got in the top 3 for all competitive keywords in our niche) with just 1 BusinessInsider link dating back to around 2022.

I even outranked popular, well-known authors and journalists who have sites in my niche.

That BusinessInsider site was the original site in our niche, probably the first ever created. Thorough, very well made, and had so much context. No fluff.

At Great Guest Posts we work hard to get our clients backlinks on “high quality dofollow backlinks” and feel terrible that some clients are spending so much money on spammy sites. Most people still don’t know a whole lot about high-quality do-follow backlinks, and that’s how they end up buying junk or spammy backlinks.

A good backlink is one that exists on a website in your niche that has incredibly amazing in-depth content that isn’t fluff. But, that site also needs to not be playing the backlink game of “get as many as you can ” because sites that do that get deranked and that is why so many people think they need 10k backlinks to rank. Those 10k backlinks are from sites with almost no “link juice” to offer.

I’ve been a professional SEO, marketer, web designer, and copywriter for over a decade. I’ve seen a lot. I’ve worked freelance for agencies and for small SEO companies. And the truth is that the concept of a good backlink and quality content has been lost to time.

The best backlinks come from true authority sites in your niche. Not DA, but sites that have authority in the eyes of human beings. If someone were to visit a website directly in your niche, where would they go first? That’s where you want your links. And it may only take one or two.

So just to summarize:

  • DA means nothing.
  • Good backlinks come from sites that actual humans value.

I use my own team and strategy to get high quality dofollow backlinks from authority websites for my clients. Within a few months our clients get fantastic results then we show the results to our prospective clients and they become new clients. This is how it’s running.

Types of backlinks:

The Dofollow backlink

A dofollow link, also known as a link that passes authority, is a link that helps a website rank higher in search results. When you link out to a website with a dofollow backlink you are essentially saying that you trust that website as a good source of information.

Technically, there are no “dofollow” backlinks. If a link does not explicitly specify that it is “nofollow,” then it is automatically considered a “follow” link.

Essentially, “follow” links pass on PageRank, while “nofollow” links do not. Therefore, “nofollow” links are generally considered “useless” for improving search engine rankings.

I placed “useless” in quotation marks because there is an argument to be made that “nofollow” links do actually hold some value in Google’s complex algorithm. Googlebot does indeed follow these links.

Starting in March 2020, Google introduced new annotations for the rel= tag: “sponsored” and “ugc”.

Do-follow links are the ones that truly matter for building up your backlink profile. However, any unnatural activity, such as having exclusively do-follow links, can signal to Google that your site is spammy or “over-optimized”.

While it’s all speculation, maintaining your website’s appearance as similar to naturally popular websites as possible is never a bad idea. This includes having a diverse backlink profile from all types of sites with all types of anchor text.

Dofollow is the one you would want the most. But with Google diversity is key! Get about 75% DoFollow and 25% NoFollow.

How to find if a link is dofollow?

Probably the most reliable method:

Visit the webpage in a browser like Firefox or Chrome. Press ctrl-u (or command-u on Mac) to view the page’s HTML. If the HTML doesn’t wrap, right-click on the code and choose “wrap long lines”.

Then use ctrl-f (or command-f on Mac) and search for your link. If it has rel="nofollow" on it, then it’s nofollowed. (“dofollow” doesn’t exist, so you probably won’t find that. It just means lack of nofollow.)

I recommend using Firefox for checking HTML, because it will show any HTML errors in red. Other browsers won’t alert you to errors.

To learn more about it, search Google for “Learn HTML web dev” (no quotes), and spend a weekend going through that tutorial. It will help a lot with SEO.

Nofollow Backlink

Imagine you’re playing a game where you collect points to win. These points are like the authority that search engines give to websites. When a website links to another website, it’s like giving some of its points to the other website.

This helps the other website get more points and rank higher in search results.

Now, there are some links that don’t pass on any points. These are called nofollow links. It’s like telling the search engine not to count these links when calculating the points for a website. This is done to stop people from cheating in the game by creating fake links to boost their points.

So, nofollow links are not very useful for improving a website’s ranking in search results.

There is no harm in having no follow links, but they won’t help you rank. There was a case study done a while ago which more or less proved it.

I guess you can think of them as a kind of insurance if you like though – it can’t hurt to have some in your profile.

No follow links doesn’t help you to increase your ranking in search engines but they can be valuable in bringing good traffic to your site.

They always help you to get some traffic so you must use it in a ratio of 75:25 so that it will also bring back some traffic and will not Leave footprint as well if your 75% are Dofollow and 25% are no follow.

Backlink types based on the link attribute

There are two link attributes to keep Google happy per Google’s help documentation

  • rel=”sponsored” identifies links created for advertising or sponsorships, or otherwise indicates a link was placed on a page for an exchange of benefit.
  • rel=”ugc” identifies user-generated content such as comments your readers attach to an article. This helps fight the effects of comment spam.
  • The “nofollow” tag has been replaced by “sponsored.” Google will continue recognizing “nofollow”, but kindly request you start using “sponsored.”

Where and how to get backlink sites?

Organic backlinks are indeed the best backlinks, but new bloggers and new websites might struggle to acquire backlink sites initially. As an alternative, consider acquiring some paid backlinks from reputable backlink sites, which could provide a slight boost to your rankings. Building free website backlinks using tools can also be beneficial for improving rankings.

Article platforms are also valuable backlink sites where you can contribute your content to various platforms. This approach will aid in gaining organic traffic and acquiring quality backlinks.

How I Can Get Free Backlinks?

Completely free backlinks are actually useless (in most cases!) There’s no escaping the fact that free backlinks sites remain a top factor for achieving higher Google rankings.

And there are 3 ways to get free backlinks:

  • Guest posting/link outreach. But these are dangerous, and not for the reasons you think.
  • Waiting for people to find your content and link to it because they consider it helpful. But if your site doesn’t rank to begin with, this won’t happen.
  • Build your own backlinks.

Option 1 is the easiest to implement but comes with a low success rate and inherent risks.

Option 2 is relatively easy to execute, but it requires your website to be already established in search engine results pages (SERPs) for people to discover and link to.

Option 3 involves an upfront payment but offers the most promising long-term results. While you can theoretically utilize free social media platforms like Medium for link building, I wouldn’t recommend this as the most effective strategy. (This is why it appears on this list of free backlink sites.)

FAQ On Dofollow Backlink Sites List

#1 How many backlinks should I create a day?

Too many backlinks in a day or week may hurt your SEO effort. Instead of having 30 toxic and spammy backlinks from fiverr acquiring a single quality site is beneficial. It’s always a debate of Quality vs Quantity!

#2 Can I get dofollow backlinks while blog commenting?

It isn’t the worst if you’re actually providing a relevant comment but the benefit is marginal. These are a lot of times “no-follow” and even if they are do-follow they are low quality.

#3 What is the best method to get dofollow and nofollow links for a website?

Get backlinks through content, like posting guest posts, videos, presentations. try to get relevant links. Because backlinks are the key to SEO. Getting links from authoritative sites would increase your ranking rapidly.

#4 What is rel=”external nofollow”? Does this affect SEO?

Target blank opens all hypertext links in the new window and rel=external nofollow, blocks all link juice and opens the link in a new window.

#5 Does nofollow links help SEO?

Generally, nofollow links do not have an impact. But, to say that there is no SEO value to a nofollow link isn’t wholly accurate.
